An elephant wins a friend

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 | 2 minute read

A lonely baby elephant
Yearned for a friend one day
Walking through the jungles into a large city
She spotted a little girl pretty
Playing with a ball alone
Excited she walked closer with intent
to ask her, to be a friend, a lifelong friend
Seeing the elephant the frightened little girl screamed
her protective parents rushed out and grabbed her in
'elephant' 'elephant' they steamed
'elephant' 'run' they ran with a din
Home came the elephant dejected

On second day, still yearning to find a new friend
And again she walked to the city
And again she saw the little girl playing with the ball
Hidden she stood watching, making no call
The ball flew out, now our elephant swung into action
She kicked it back with pride in a time fraction
It bounced and bounced and bounced away
the little girl cried, her parents screamed all ash gray
in went the little girl
Home came the elephant dejected

Not the one to give up
Another bright day, she ventured out again
pausing at a stream to get a drink of water
Wonder of wonder! She found the little girl playing there
She sneaked from behind with little strain
Taking in a gallon of water in her trunk
She playfully drenched the little girl with the rain
The little girl danced in joy
And they played together
games unpretentious & coy
Her parents saw this, they screamed 'elephant'
the brave little girl said 'no mommy'
'this elephant is my friend'
The little girl was not afraid anymore
And the elephant had finally made a friend
