Her eyes smiled back
Fleetingly acknowledging his presence in her life
Somewhere in the moment she wallowed
For there was no real love in there

They led the life as a couple
Participating diligently in the worldly matters
Hidden from the gaze of the outside
They did not share an ounce of love

The daily life continued
The dance kept the onlookers busy
The music had stopped long back
But the automatic rhythm kept the questions away

Desperate to save the remaining life
He sometimes bent backward to accommodate her
It lasted only for a brief time
Before the game was back at the same location

She cuddled and said sweet things
Shining with him, she wished no more
Ultimately the truth cannot be hidden forever
Her lies eventually surfaced in full bloom

He wished for this to end
Without hurting anyone anymore
Far away was the goal post visible
Fifteen years was the time he had to pay the toll
