Did you ever have one of those days where everything seems to conspire against you? .. Not the big, earth-shattering disasters, but a relentless parade of minor annoyances that pile up and make you question everything .. I’m talking about the kind of day where you start wondering if the universe is playing some elaborate prank on you.
Take this morning, for example. I woke up with grand ambitions, ready to conquer the world .. But then, my iPhone decided to snooze itself. I mean, how does that even happen? So, I scrambled out of bed, tripped over my own feet, and narrowly avoided a face plant. Not exactly the start I envisioned.
Then, I tried to make coffee .. Tried being the keyword here because my coffee machine apparently decided it was the perfect day to go on strike. It gurgled, sputtered, and then just gave up. Great. No caffeine .. That’s when I knew I was in for a long day ..
As I stumbled through my morning, cursing under my breath, I saw this pop up on my computer screen ..
Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny
.. and then, I couldn’t help but think about those ancient texts filled with so-called wisdom .. the many manuscripts. You know, the ones written by some guy who probably had his own share of bad days. Were those people really any different from us? Did they sit around, dealing with their ancient versions of our modern headaches, and think, "I should write this down for future generations to stress over"?
Imagine if those ancient scribes had the same kind of days we do. They probably dealt with broken chisels or uncooperative goats. Did they jot down their frustrations, hoping their wisdom would stand the test of time? Or were they just venting, like some ancient version of a blog post? And are those musings even relevant today? Or are we just idolizing the ramblings of some guy who happened to have a chisel and some stone tablets?
Think about all the wisdom lost because someone didn’t have a notepad handy or their scribblings got misplaced over the centuries. What about the profound thoughts that vanished because the writer got distracted by, I don't know, a particularly engaging cloud or a rampaging goat? We could be missing out on some real gems here.
For example, peek into the wisdom of any holy book .. here's something everyone loves to quote, “Do your work, do not aspire for its results,” or some version of it. Sounds deep, right? But what if it’s just the ancient equivalent of someone’s social media rant about a bad day at work? Was the author dealing with uncooperative people, livestock or ancient paperwork? And how does that advice hold up today, in a world of constant emails, meetings, and social media pings?
Honestly .. life is messy and complicated. Every day feels like a new episode in the ongoing series of absurdity .. Many of the jobs we do, seem to have no real significance and exist just for the heck of it. You continue to try your best, but sometimes it feels like the universe has other plans. You wake up with plans to conquer the world, only to be thwarted by a printer jamming or a traffic jam that appears out of nowhere.
And yet, we keep going, fueled by a mix of hope, caffeine, and sheer stubbornness. We navigate this chaos, finding humor in the ridiculousness of it all. Because if we don’t laugh, we’ll end up crying in a corner, questioning every life choice we’ve ever made.
So, is everything that works, Right? and everything that doesn’t, Wrong? .. Who knows? What I’ve learned is that sometimes, you just have to roll with the punches, laugh at the absurdity, and keep moving forward. Life is a wild ride, full of unexpected twists and turns .. we’re all just trying to make sense of this madness, one misadventure at a time. And perhaps, it's in those moments of chaos that we find the most profound wisdom—usually scribbled on a Post-it note stuck to the refrigerator. Wonder, who would read my notes in 100's of years from now?
