Rhyme and Reflection

Spinning life’s chaos into laughs, stories, and verses — because therapy is expensive

Kissing Today

Sunday, June 15, 2025 | 1 minute read

Wrapped in the shroud of memory’s thread
I straddle the living, the long-loved dead
To chase the lustful arms of today
Or dream with tomorrow, drifting away

Memories I try to leave behind
Not bitter, nor sweet - just refined
Stories once lived, now softly whisper
Echoes adrift in a distant sky

Today, seductive, calls me near
But asks for a price both sharp and clear
"Unwrap the shroud," she gently pleads
"And kiss me full, where nothing leads"

Tomorrow waits by the window pane
A fleeting face in morning rain
I run — she fades, then loops her play
Returning quietly as bold Today

But vibrant Today, so fierce, so wide
Keeps me shut from her glowing side
Unless I lock the hallway tight
And close the window on hoped-for light

So here I stand — no veil, no shield
Between the ghosts and what may yield
I kiss her not to cage or bind
But to be, in breath, in heart, in mind
And in her warmth, the window goes
The hallway dims, but never fully closed
